As doctors and specialists adopt modern medical billing services and electronic medical record software, they're noticing all sorts of advantages, including improved security, lower overhead, enhanced organization and better patient care. As medical professionals and organizations continue to install modern EMR systems, patients will also enjoy more convenient access to their medical records, as well as other benefits that will make going to the doctor easier and faster.

Fewer office visits

During the middle part of the last decade, Kaiser Permanente reported that Hawaiians made 25 percent less visits to their primary care physicians, thanks to an EMR software platform that made it easy for doctors and patients to communicate via e-mail. Instead of needing to miss work to make their doctor's appointments, patients could meet with their physicians online. As more physicians and HMOs commit to these technological advances, patients will have an easier time getting answers to questions about their health.

Quick laboratory results

A lot of clinics currently allow patients to access their lab results through software platforms that put this information right at their fingertips. Instead of having to wait while their physicians wrap up a busy schedule, patients can get immediate answers to worrisome questions.

More control

When a patient decides to go to a specialist or change to a new doctor, he or she must usually go back and forth trying to get a hold of CT scan images and x-rays. Nowadays, new EMR software make it easy for patients to download their own records and/or allow their new doctors to do it for them. Instead of playing the go-between game with their new and old doctors, patients can easily transition to their new specialists or physicians without having to deal with all of the difficulties that once came with such moves.
